Great love

A short reflection on the 25th Sunday after Pentecost.

A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Lk 18:18

This week I ran into a good friend of mine in which I had not seen in a while. It was lovely to see her. However, she had some not so great news to share with me.

Unfortunately, her mum due to her age and other factors had become quit ill; unable to preform daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning and self hygiene.

Thus, my friend had made the selfless decision to take up the responsibility to look after her mum whilst juggling two jobs and looking after her own family.

This has been going on for several months now. The physical stress that it has put on her body is evident. She herself looks sick and looks as she has aged drastically over night.

However, this is what one does out of love. They roll up their sleeves and get to work so to speak.

What an amazing woman she is to sacrifice her own life in order to make another life comfortable.

These days the majority of people are suffering from the me, myself and I syndrome, where they are the centre on their universe and everyone around them are but mere subjects - expected to lunge at their request. (demon of delusion)

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honour your father and mother.’ Lk 18:19-20

I would like to a similar story which is very close to home for me.

Two week ago my 93 year old grandmother pass away; resting in the Lord. My uncle had been her full time caregiver; arriving at her house every morning to clean and cook for the day. This went on for approximately 10 year, after my grandfather had passed away.

However, the love, care and compassion my uncle showed his mum nearly back fired on him.

His marriage was on the verge of ending. Unfortunately, many marriages in the past have ended due to similar stories. A spouse becomes jealous and unable to handle sharing their partner, so they call it quits ending sometimes a lifetime of marriage. (demon of jealousy)

Also like my friend his mental and physical health was declining. But again, when you love someone you would go to the moon and back as the old saying goes. Pure, unfabricated and genuine love has no limits nor boundaries. A love that stems from the All-Holy-Trinity!

“All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Lk 18:21-22

Just as Christ commands us to love one another, let us beseech our Gracious Lord to show us how to love others in the same way we love our family. To show love to a complete stranger is hard at time because like many things in life - the minority ruin it for the majority! However, with Jesus All Things Are Possible! We will be victorious through His Victory!

To all who will be celebrating Holy Nativity on the 25th of December I pray you have a blessed Christmas. May Emmanuel come into your hearts; imparting grace, love and peace which only He can give.

Through the prayers of the Theotokos, Lord Jesus Christ our God have mercy on us and save us. Amen

When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”  Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Lk 18:23-27
