The celebration of our Holy Angelic and Blessed Powers liturgy began with the ringing of the bells. The congregation arrived and the clergy entered in beautiful song.
Father Mark read from Galatians, reminding us that is our deeds, not our sacrifices, which make us God’s children. Then the gospel was brought amongst the people and Father Matthew read St Luke’s account of the parable of the Good Samaritan. It reinforced that our deeds towards others, not or circumstances, are what make us neighbourly and provide the path to holiness.
Metropolitan Raffaele presented his homily, in which he reminded us to remember and call upon our Saints, relating a story of when he was personally protected by his own Archangels.
Then, those with us and those who have passed were honoured - in particular the late loving mother of one of our congregation, Scholastica.
Next, young Luke was welcomed into the role of Server, robed in beautiful green vestments and lead around the alter thrice by Father Matthew.
The creed was spoken and the gifts were brought, blessed, and transfigured before the clergy communed. The people were welcomed for communion and the Metropolitan reflected on the party and the liturgy, noting that each were an important part of our spiritual health.
Regarding the liturgy and party (agape) meal - the agape came first in ancient times, then the liturgy. These days it's the other way round, which is good because after a party, moods change and we may not be in the right head space for worship. Yet we need to be nourished spiritually and physically.
(Archbishop Metropolitan Raffaele)
We all proceeded to the cloisters where snacks and conversations were enjoyed by all.
