Homily on the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee Luke 18: 10-14.
In today’s Gospel, our Lord and Saviour recounts for us the story of the Pharisee and the tax collector. What is significant in today’s Gospel is that our Lord and Saviour is teaching us how to pray to Him. What one learns is that the Pharisee whilst trying to look all pious misses the mark for the All-Holy Trinity does not desire to hear the ramblings of proud men. Rather, the prayer that is accepted is the prayer of the humble tax collector. What is the difference? One prayer comes from the heart and a place of humility, the other, (the prayer of the Pharisee) from a place of arrogance and conceit! What we must learn from this is that the All-Holy Trinity accepts prayers from hearts that are humble and full of love!
Today my homily is somewhat shorter as we are in the midst of a great work – the building and consecration of the Chapel of Saint Mark of Ephesus and Saint Herman of Alaska. Keep posted for there will be some pictures put up on our website of the building of the Chapel. Please keep us in your prayers as we undertake such a great work on behalf of our Lord and Saviour! To the All-Holy Trinity be all glory and honour, Amen!
